Tile Calculator

Calculate the number of tiles needed for floors, walls, and backsplashes. Includes grout spacing, waste factor, and cost estimation.

How it works

Tiles = Area / Tile Area × (1 + Wastage %). Standard wastage: 10% straight lay, 15% diagonal, 20% herringbone.

Worked example

A 12 ft × 10 ft floor (120 sq ft) with 12"×12" tiles and 10% wastage needs 132 tiles.

Frequently asked questions

How much extra material should I order for wastage in a tiling project?

10% for straight lay on rectangular rooms, 15% for diagonal patterns, 15–20% for herringbone or busy patterns, and add 5% more for rooms with lots of cuts (bathrooms, L-shapes).

Should I buy from the same dye lot?

Yes — always order all tiles at once from the same lot. Colours can shift noticeably between production batches, so keep 3–5% spare tiles for future repairs.
